Ryan Cohen

Ryan Cohen is a 19-year-old super Padres fan, student at UC Davis, Encinitas native, and listener to Ben & Woods. During his Thanksgiving break, he joined Shel and Ben at The Regal Seagull to share his unexpected path to becoming a Padres fan, his love of dancing on the Petco Park video board, and life in Encinitas and Davis. Just root beer for Ryan, although Shel lands on a very unique space when she spins the Wheel of Indecision!

BottleRocket

The Regal Seagull is getting a baby brother! Down at Our Rendezvous gets an inside look at the brand-new BottleRocket in San Diego’s East Village. Eli Delgado is joining the Regal team as one of the pub’s proprietors, and he talks about the drinks, food, and build-up to a November soft opening. Join Shel and Ben as they help launch a new hangout!

South Africa & the Seagull

This week’s #DownAtOurRendezvous podcast is essential listening for any patron of The Regal Seagull. Shel and Ben go back to the beginning with manager/bartender extraordinaire Patrick Fagan, hearing about his life growing up and playing soccer in South Africa, and how he eventually ended up in the United States and behind the bar at the Seagull. It’s a fascinating conversation, that touches on serious topics like apartheid and ongoing social issues in South Africa, their vibrant Southern California-like culture and weather, and the backstory of how Paddy made his way to San Diego and everybody’s favorite bar in Leucadia.

Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival

Shel and Ben venture out to the Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival in Spring Valley on this edition of Down At Our Rendezvous. They meet up with their friend, Shawn Walchef, owner of Cali Comfort BBQ, and organizer of the event, which has grown over 10 years to feature nearly two dozen amateur BBQ teams! They talk to one of the pitmasters about the rigors of the competition, and meet a judge who is organizing the county’s first-ever school BBQ club at Torrey Pines HS.

Hammer Time

Shel has been looking forward to this one for awhile. Ben’s 97.3 The Fan colleague, Alex Perlin — AKA Hammer — joins our hosts at The Regal Seagull. The 27-year-old former college football player brings an incredible attitude to his work both behind-the-scenes and on-the-air for Ben & Woods. He also owns a Neverending Pasta Pass at Olive Garden, is obsessed with Pokemon, and just might be on Shel’s “List”…

Eppig

Shel and Ben rendezvous with their friend Abby at the Eppig Waterfront Biergarten in Point Loma to learn about the historic inspiration for one of San Diego’s best new breweries. Abby is the Sales Manager for Eppig, but by the end, it’s just four friends (Abby’s husband Scott joins in) talking about everything from good lumpia to garbage plates (you’ll just have to listen to find out).

Justin Livin’ Life

The positivity flows (along with the beer) this week at The Regal Seagull. Shel and Ben chat with Justin, who tells us how he’s lived the past four decades with Cystic Fibrosis without letting it get him down. He explains more about the genetic condition, and how he’s already beaten some long odds based on what doctors told his parents at birth. Plus, Justin loves craft beer and has been one of the biggest supporters of #DownAtOurRendezvous from the very beginning!

Shel and Ben and Woods

It’s not easy getting family man Steven Woods to visit a den of beer drinking like The Regal Seagull, but he ventured all the way from Solana Beach to join Shel and Ben for lunch and a podcast. He even brought along his fair-faced but foul-mouthed offspring, who drops something even worse than an F-bomb at the end of the podcast. A good 30 minutes of behind-the-scenes fun for Ben and Woods listeners.
